The season's lone midweek fixture produced some brutal action from the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, in their World Championship qualifying round, whilst Vintage Tin Night for the National Bangers again produced a variety of old cars to the under 1400cc RWD format.
BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
A scintillating performance by former eight times World Champion 218 Rob Speak saw him win the A1 Windows & Doors World qualifying round, and along the way he smashed the track lap record by becoming the first driver to record a lap time below the revered 12.8 seconds mark. It was on lap eleven of the feature final that Speak posted a remarkable lap time of 12.788 seconds, on his way to 29 precious World points.
Speak was chased home by National Points Champion 7 Gordon Moodie, and even joked to the Scottish ace about his post-race celebratory donuts, when he asked, "Did you see me do donuts? That was because I had beaten Gordon Moodie!" Third home was British Champion 401 Barry Goldin, and the trophy presentation area was as close as you can get to current era Stock Car royalty.
At the start of the night, Moodie had beaten Speak to win heat one, whilst heat two went to 127 Matt Stoneman. The consolation saw 935 Nathan Maidment just get to the line ahead of his fellow Duratec powered driver, 990 Paul Rice.
In the Grand National, Maidment and Stoneman clashed heavily in the pits bend, after which Maidment then drove into Stoneman on the infield, which saw Maidment suspended from racing and reported to BriSCA F2 for a disciplinary hearing. Moodie took his second win of the night, 276 Murray Jones came out on top of an epic battle with Stoneman, 783 James Rygor and 921 Jack Aldridge to clinch second, and Speak returned to third from the compulsory one lap handicap.
National Bangers - under 1400cc RWD
Just shy of 20 drivers contested this season's annual Vintage Tin Night. The pick of the cars on view was the Mk1 Ford Consul of 451 Nigel Belfield, and 'Sprout' really did the car justice, with a fantastic display of driving skills. He was hassled in all three races, but each time managed to drive away from pressure, to record three finishes. Whilst Belfield has been in good form of late, 239 Steve Carter continued his excellent performances of late, with a set of all-action displays, particularly his entertaining exchanges with the gallant 251 Scott Baker.
Heat one went to 452 Anthony Sleeman in a Ford Cortina, and then 282 Lee Treasurer won heat two in a Mk3 Ford Cortina. The final brought the second Cornish winner of Vintage Tin Night in four years, as 383 Andre McLellan took the chequered, ahead of Belfield and 838 Damien Tiley, who was making his first National Bangers appearance of the season.
McLellan was then beaten at the last in the DD, by Sleeman.
Stock Rods
Another controversial evening from the non-contact Stock Rods included two rollovers, as 730 Brendon Sealy and 92 Adam Daniels both inverted in separate incidents.
193 Chris Drake continued his impressive form, as he won one heat, was second to 565 Andy Giles in another heat and then took the final. The 39-point haul for the night was enough to send Drake to the top of the Points Championship.
34 Glenn Sanders took the other heat, whilst Drake was chased home in the final by Giles and 181 Lindsey Jones.
