Smeatharpe Stadium - Monday 31st August 2009
After persistent morning mist and drizzle had cleared, the weather improved as the Bank Holiday Monday race meeting progressed, and concluded in bright sunshine. 877 Eddie Darby completed a memorable weekend, with his second BriSCA F2 final win in as many days, whilst 124 Ollie Skeels took the Devon Championship for Ministox.
BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
The F2s served up some astonishingly good racing, with each of the day's five races producing a different winner.
The heats went the way of 464 Matt Linfield and 827 Graham Harding, and 935 Nathan Maidment accounted for the consolation.
The Club 21 final had 26 starters, and was won convincingly by 877 Eddie Darby, with 676 Neil Hooper and 832 Kane Moore joining him on the rostrum.
Hooper then took the Grand National, to regain the lead in the Track Championship.
Saloon Stock Cars
The trio of races for Saloon Stock Cars again yielded a trio of race winners. 490 Ian Jarman won the opener from 125 Mike Hibberd, but the Cornish racer responded with a fine win in heat two - his first in Saloon Stock Cars at Smeatharpe. Hibberd and Jarman clashed in the final, with more than a little help from 103 Chris Horwell. The chequered flag fell on 186 Todd Jones, but he was docked for jumping a single file restart. That promoted 360 Carl Waterfield into the winner's place, with 30 Barry Hollett second. Jones snubbed the presentation ceremony and refused to collect his third place trophy.
Ministox
A pair of heat wins put 104 Joe Parker on pole for the Devon title race, but from grid four, 124 Ollie Skeels swiftly took command, and he won from 171 Adam O'Dell and 175 Tyler Collison, with 971 Jason Cox sigining off his last westcountry appearance with a fourth place.
Minibus Mayhem
Most of the Minibus Mayhem centred around 266 Ian Meaker getting his vechicle to the track, after he encountered problems with his lorry. Meaker and 190 Steve Bailey were the only two drivers to take up the Minibus Mayhem challenge, but proceeded to put on a comical show, including a blitzing of an empty car and a disused caravan at the end of the meeting.
