A large Bank Holiday Monday crowd packed into the United Downs Raceway, St Day, and were treated to some comical fun from the Siamese Bangers, who entertained regally. There were also good numbers of Bangers and Ministox, whilst the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars made their second Cornish appearance of 2010.
Siamese Bangers
Although there were only four pairs in the Siamese Bangers, the action served up was quite wonderful fun. Remember - in each pairing, the driver in the top car was steering, and the driver in the bottom car was operating the pedals.
Bedecked in Red Bull colours, the 53 David James and 13 Matt Bradfield pairing did appear to have been given wings, as they flew to victory in all three races. 141 Toby Tiddy and 142 James Herman were second on two occasions, and 838 Damien Tiley and 776 Terry Senford also enjoyed a runner-up finish.
In the third race, the chequered flag was swiftly followed by a green to allow some DD action for a short period, and that raised the fun and entertainment levels still further, with 423 Nigel Beresford and 422 Tristan Beresford taking some good-natured punishment.
BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
The season's second visit to Cornwall for the F2s, saw 20 drivers in action, including teenager 985 Amy Deeble who made her debut. In the opening two heats, 116 Ashley Rundle scored back to back wins, for his first victories of the season. Heat three brought 315 Justin Fisher his first St Day win of the season.
Unfortunately, the F2 final began with a crash amongst the yellow graders, which prevented a few drivers from gridding for the re-run. 676 Neil Hooper made it to the front by the time the chequered was ready to fall, despite a late charge by Track Champion 105 Ross Rowe. Hooper thus won his first feature final at St Day since June 2003, with Rowe second and 830 Andrew Bennett third.
Rowe ended the afternoon with a win, as he took the Grand National.
Bangers
A fine showing of 61 Bangers, maintained the formula's excellent start to the season.
Final winner at the opening St Day fixture for the Bangers, 910 Katie Dawe, took the first heat. Thereafter, the day belonged to 246 Ryan Sparks who went on to record a heat and final double. Star graders 382 Danny Hunt and 113 Chris Jeanes chased Sparks home in the feature race.
The meeting ended with a particularly lively Allcomers race, won by 60 Andy Bulled.
Ministox
For the second St Day meeting in a row, 991 Ryan Hoskin scored a hat-trick in the junior class, to make it six wins from six starts at his home track.
The day's other heat went the way of 903 Adam Neville. However, in the final, Neville was involved in a most unfortunate crash, when he ran into the back of the stationary 978 Jake Silvester car, which had run aground by the pit gate. In the restarted race, the luckless 966 Rich Crowther was spun out of second place by 945 Ashley Prisk, who was docked in the final analysis for a jumped start. Hoskin completed his trio of victories when he led home 954 Hannah Sear and 996 Phil Chapman.
