United Downs Raceway - Sunday 4th April 2010
A bright sunny Easter Sunday greeted racegoers who attended this year's Boneshaker for the National Bangers, which produced plenty of action from all three classes that took part in the day.
2-Litre National Bangers Boneshaker
Although car numbers were down on previous years, there was still an abundance of smartly presented cars, and six drivers were duly rewarded for their efforts during the pre-meeting prize giving. Similarly, there was bonus awards for the four furthest travelled drivers (with 51 Jon Worstencroft having clocked up the most miles), and the day's lone oldest/rarest car, a Vauxhall Carlton for 99 David Spooner Jnr.
During the course of the afternoon, Spooner Jnr and 507 Paul Ashby were each involved in rollovers, whilst 410 Shaun Rowe and 189 Ry Beardwell took some hefty punishment that left their respective cars significantly disfigured.
452 Anthony Sleeman kept up his fine home track form by winning the first heat and 239 Steve Carter sped to victory in heat two. After 479 Jamie Jenkin had won a damaging consolation, in which just six drivers went the distance, there were 25 qualifiers for the Boneshaker final. The early race rollover for Spooner Jnr forced a stoppage and complete re-run. Carter got to the front and charged to the title, ahead of 162 Brett Ellacott and 190 Steve Bailey who fought hard to make it up to third from the rear of the grid.
Ellacott won the Allcomers race, which saw plenty of action in the pits bend.
Ten cars did battle in the DD, with Bailey seeing off 715 Lee Morris, 714 Paul Smaldon and 66 Dave Spooner to take victory.
Saloon Stock Cars
Former World, European and National Champion 120 Shane Brown swept majestically to a three-race hat-trick, with a truly commanding performance. Brown was simply a league apart from the rest. The opening heat was an exciting race, but the Western Championship final was the pick of the trio of events for the Saloon Stock Cars, culminating as it did in a thrilling last lap. Brown had already taken the chequered flag to clinch the title, but behind him there was pandemonium in the scramble for second. 834 Dan Climo nudged 305 Nigel Parker wide, and then tried to spin him on the home straight. Parker rode up the safety fence, Climo glanced across the infield, and between the two of them, 618 Stuart Shevill Jnr nipped by to claim the runner-up place.
Ministox
There was a triumphant first appearance of 991 Ryan Hoskin's new car, as he sped to a trio of race wins. Hoskin was uncatchable in the heats, as he roared to victory ahead of 315 Tristan Claydon and 960 Dale Moon. Heat three saw Claydon win from Moon, and then followed the all-in final, with 21 cars packed on to the grid. Once more, Hoskin stormed up the order, and although he was chased hard by Moon, Hoskin held on to complete his hat-trick, with 945 Ashley Prisk the other driver in the top three.
